I edited that.
Hi, I’m Brynn! I’m a self-publishing consultant and I edit and typeset nonfiction books. I help authors get from messy manuscript to beautifully published book.
About Me
I’m not just a self-publishing consultant and book editor, I’m also an author. If you’re an author, I understand exactly what it feels like.
My first book was a rush project. When COVID-19 became a global pandemic and schools closed or moved online, many parents chose to homeschool. Negative comments from some parents about the transition were circulating in the media. However, I had already been homeschooling my kids for years and I knew it didn’t need to be a bad experience. In fact, it could be a great experience!
I set out to create the book I wish I had when I was just getting started—a book meant to help homeschooling parents know they’re not alone, that they can do it, and that it can be an amazing experience (while also acknowledging the inevitable challenges along the way). And I wanted the book to not just tell my story, but tell the stories of many homeschooling families from different backgrounds and with a variety of homeschooling styles.
I brought on a co-editor and together we gathered essays from two dozen other homeschooling parents and self-published the book, Why I Love Homeschooling. The book went from idea to published work in just two months. A year later, my co-editor and I followed it up with Why I Love Homeschooling Neurodiverse Kids. In addition to editing/authoring these books, I have published in the academic world and I create children’s books under the pen name Daisy Rains.
My editing and proofreading career started many years before I became an author. While a student at Brigham Young University, I worked as a proofreader for CultureGrams, “a leading reference resource for reliable cultural information on the countries of the world” and became an editor for the university’s Forever Families website. I’ve worked as a content editor for large websites; magazine articles published in Fast Company, Forbes, TIME, Mashable, and TechCrunch; and academic publications.
I’ve editing Wall Street Journal bestsellers like Beyond the Building and 60 Days to LinkedIn Mastery (which also became a USA Today bestseller) and other books for executives and entrepreneurs.
As a book editor and proofreader, I’ve worked directly with authors who self-publish as well as those who have published with traditional and hybrid publishers.
My Editing Focus
I do developmental editing, copy editing, line editing, and proofreading—I take an already-written book manuscript and clean it up so that it’s ready to go to print. I also format books for printing and help authors self-publish their books, including helping them connect and work with cover designers and other vendors they may need.
I specialize in nonfiction business, self-help, and how-to books. However, I’m happy to edit and proofread fiction and nonfiction children’s books, and proofread content from any genre.
A Personal Note
I’m a wife to an author and book coach and mom to three amazing children and two dogs. I love traveling, hiking, practicing yoga, and reading. I was born in Texas, but I’ve lived all over the US and also in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Germany. I currently live in beautiful Arizona.
What My Clients Say
“You are the best editor I've ever worked with. Seriously. Thank you for investing so much not just in spelling and grammar but flow and what it takes to take a book from an F to an A. I very much appreciate your work on this project!” — Jason Alba, author Get Hired and CEO, JibberJobber
“Brynn did a great job of helping me through the editing process, and quickly too! She has a fabulous combination of attention to detail as well as literary creativity, helping me take my rougher writing and turn it into a readable and actionable book, The Intentional Engineer, that has been well received. She also guided me through the basics of the publishing process, which, as a first time author, was a big deal. The book turned out beautifully as she typeset it for print and eBook versions, and it looks great! The book sold many copies during its first year and received the Distinguished Literary Contribution award from IEEE, the largest engineering professional society. So grateful to have her help along my path as an author!” — Jeff Perry, author, The Intentional Engineer
